Itron announced the addition of two new cellular modules— the Itron Cellular 500G for gas meters and the Itron Cellular 500W for water meters— to its UtilityIQ® Application Suite. The modules run on the company’s Gen6 network platform and are engineered to deliver flexible, cost‑effective connectivity for utilities that need to capture high‑frequency data from distributed assets.

The new modules enable utilities to integrate cellular and mesh connectivity, providing hourly‑aligned interval readings and tamper notifications from Itron 100‑Series water and gas meters. By doing so, utilities can meet regulatory requirements for leak detection and water conservation, which currently cost U.S. utilities $6.4 billion annually in lost water. For gas utilities, the modules support continuous monitoring that can reduce methane emissions—estimated at 1.25 to 2.66 million metric tons per year—and enhance safety.

The launch reinforces Itron’s strategy of building a comprehensive, software‑driven platform that turns legacy metering assets into high‑margin, recurring‑revenue opportunities. The modules are now available in the United States through select cellular carriers, extending the life of existing Itron hardware while opening new revenue streams for the company. "Data is the foundation of a resilient network. The two new Itron cellular modules, together with UtilityIQ, create that foundation by enabling utilities to capture data from the edge of their distribution networks," said John Marcolini, senior vice president of Networked Solutions.

The market reaction to the announcement was positive, reflecting confidence in Itron’s strategy and its recent strong Q4 2025 earnings. Analysts upgraded the company, citing the expanded product portfolio and the growing demand for digital metering solutions as key drivers of future growth.
