Itron announced a partnership with Snowflake that will bring a new AI‑powered grid‑planning solution to utilities, enabling them to run full‑year power‑flow analyses and real‑time forecasting on a cloud platform.

The solution will allow utilities to perform 8,760‑hour power‑flow analyses and real‑time forecasting, addressing the complexity introduced by distributed energy resources such as solar, electric vehicles and battery storage.

Itron’s distributed‑intelligence (DI) platform already powers more than 16 million grid‑edge endpoints; the Snowflake integration adds a scalable, cloud‑based analytics engine that complements Itron’s on‑premise hardware and software stack, creating a more comprehensive end‑to‑end solution for grid modernization.

The partnership is expected to open new revenue streams from advanced planning services, deepen relationships with existing utility customers, and strengthen Itron’s competitive position against other grid‑intelligence vendors that are investing heavily in cloud‑native analytics.

Don Reeves, Itron’s senior vice president of Outcomes, said the collaboration “enables utilities to plan smarter, adapt faster and deliver reliable energy for the communities that they serve,” highlighting the speed and reliability that the partnership brings to grid operators.

The deal aligns with the broader industry trend of utilities adopting AI and cloud‑based solutions to manage increasingly complex grids, and it dovetails with Snowflake’s Energy Solutions initiative, which aims to provide tailored offerings for the energy sector.

Itron’s Q3 2025 revenue was $581.6 million, a 5.5% decline YoY, and the company is expected to report Q4 2025 revenue of $555–$565 million, down 9% YoY; the new partnership is positioned to help offset this decline by monetizing advanced planning services.

Itron also plans to acquire Urbint for $325 million in an all‑cash deal expected to close in the fourth quarter, further expanding its AI and analytics capabilities.

The partnership positions Itron to capture advanced planning services and compete more effectively in a market that is rapidly moving toward AI‑driven, cloud‑native grid solutions.
