Jacobs Solutions Inc. was selected by the Illinois Department of Transportation to provide engineering, procurement, and construction management services for two segments of the I‑290 corridor modernization project, a critical link in the Chicago area transportation network that serves freight and commuter traffic.

The two segments include the replacement of the Indiana Harbor Belt railroad bridge and the installation of a supplemental storm sewer system, among other infrastructure improvements. Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2026 and will be completed in phases over the next three to four years, providing a long‑term revenue stream for Jacobs.

The contract win adds to Jacobs’ growing portfolio of transportation projects and reinforces its strategy of pursuing high‑margin, long‑cycle contracts in key growth markets. Jacobs reported Q1 2026 revenue of $3.29 billion, up 12.3% year‑over‑year, and a backlog of $26.3 billion, up 20.6% year‑over‑year. The new award will contribute to this robust backlog and future revenue streams.

In its Q1 2026 earnings release, Chair and CEO Bob Pragada said, “We delivered excellent first quarter results driven by revenue strength in both Infrastructure & Advanced Facilities (IAF) and PA Consulting.” He added, “We are off to a great start in FY26 and strong results in Q1 give us confidence to increase our outlook for the fiscal year.” CFO Venk Nathamuni noted, “We’re very pleased with our Q1 performance. We exceeded expectations across key financial metrics, including revenue, margin, EPS and cash from operations and believe we are well positioned to build on this momentum, as reflected in our raised full‑year guidance.”

The I‑290 corridor modernization is part of a larger $5.6 billion Blue Line Reconstruction Project that aims to address congestion, improve safety, and upgrade aging infrastructure. Jacobs’ expertise in integrating transportation, water, and tunneling capabilities positions it well to deliver the complex scope of work required for the corridor.

The award underscores Jacobs’ continued expansion in the Midwest and its ability to secure high‑profile infrastructure projects that align with its long‑term growth strategy.
