JetBlue announced on May 4 2026 that it would expand its Fort Lauderdale‑Hollywood International Airport (FLL) schedule and launch a loyalty status match for former Spirit Airlines Free Spirit Silver and Gold members, following Spirit’s abrupt shutdown on May 2 2026.
The expanded schedule adds nonstop service to Barranquilla and Cali in Colombia; Baltimore; Charlotte, North Carolina; Columbus, Ohio; and Indianapolis, and increases frequencies on existing routes to Austin, Aguadilla, Dallas/Fort Worth, Raleigh‑Durham, Santo Domingo, and Santiago de los Caballeros. A new San Juan‑to‑Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport service is also added. JetBlue expects nearly 130 daily departures from Fort Lauderdale this summer, a more than 75 % increase over 2025 levels.
The status match allows former Spirit Silver members to transfer to JetBlue’s TrueBlue Mosaic 1 tier and former Gold members to Mosaic 2. Mosaic 1 benefits include bonus points per dollar spent, priority boarding, two free checked bags, complimentary alcoholic drinks, preferred seat selection, and free upgrades to Even More Space seats. The offer is limited‑time, though an end date has not been specified.
Strategically, Spirit’s collapse created a sudden capacity gap in South Florida. JetBlue’s expansion is designed to capture displaced demand, strengthen its presence in a key market, and grow its hub network. The airline has operated at FLL for 26 years and it remains its largest focus city.
Financially, JetBlue’s market capitalization was $1.87 billion and its total debt $9.33 billion at the time of the announcement. President Marty St. George said the company is “stepping up for Fort Lauderdale to ensure the availability of air service in this market” and that the status match “recognizes the loyalty that former Spirit customers built over time.”
The expansion is expected to increase revenue, capture market share, and enhance the TrueBlue loyalty program. No market reaction data is available at this time.
