JPMorgan Chase has appointed Guy Halamish as Chief Operating Officer of its Commercial and Investment Bank (CIB), a division that drives roughly half of the bank’s net income. The new COO will oversee the CIB’s AI and data strategy across payments, global banking, securities, and markets, positioning technology at the heart of the division’s operations.
The CIB generated $25 billion in net income in 2025, about half of JPMorgan’s total net income, and produced the same amount in 2024 out of the firm’s $58.5 billion in total net income. The division includes the global banking, markets, payments, and securities services segments, all of which will now report to Halamish’s new data operating model that pairs Chief Data & Analytics Officers with business heads.
JPMorgan’s focus on AI and data has accelerated in recent years, highlighted by an $18 billion technology spend in 2025 and the development of a proprietary generative‑AI platform called LLM Suite. The new COO role is part of a broader effort to embed AI into day‑to‑day commercial activities, with CD&A officers reporting jointly to Halamish and their respective business leaders.
The appointment signals JPMorgan’s intent to use AI and data to speed product development, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen its competitive position in the financial services industry. By centralizing these initiatives under a single executive, the bank aims to align its technology roadmap with business objectives and deliver measurable gains in client experience and cost management.
