KBR, Inc. announced that it has secured a major Integrated Field Management Services contract from Basra Oil Company for the Majnoon oil field in southern Iraq. The award will see KBR deliver upstream engineering, project and operations management, and maintenance services to modernize the field and deploy advanced AI and digital technologies to optimize reservoir performance.
The Majnoon field, one of the world’s largest oil fields, holds estimated reserves of more than 38 billion barrels. The new contract is expected to employ roughly 2,000 in‑country personnel and will build on KBR’s existing work at the Rumaila field and the July 2025 renewal of an EPCM contract for Majnoon.
While the contract’s financial value and duration were not disclosed, the award is a significant long‑term revenue opportunity for KBR’s Sustainable Technology Solutions segment, which has higher adjusted EBITDA margins than the company’s Government Solutions segment. The deal underscores KBR’s ability to secure large, complex projects in challenging environments.
"Oil field development projects of this scale and complexity require a strategic and trusted high‑value provider with proven in‑country experience, disciplined execution, and a strong safety culture," said Jay Ibrahim, President of KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions. "This award underscores KBR’s deep and diverse technical capability, including upstream operational services, and decades‑long commitment to Iraq.","The contract strengthens KBR’s footprint in Iraq’s energy sector, a market that is actively seeking to increase output and attract foreign investment. The company’s strategic shift, including the planned spin‑off of its Mission Technology Solutions segment, positions the Sustainable Technology Solutions unit to capture higher‑margin work such as this field‑management award.","Analysts note that the contract adds a new, high‑margin revenue stream and reinforces KBR’s track record of delivering complex engineering and operations services in volatile regions. The company’s focus on local employment and knowledge transfer aligns with Iraq’s development goals and may enhance its competitive positioning in the region.
