Kopin Corporation announced that it has been awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract to advance next‑generation MicroLED display technology. The award builds on a $15.4 million Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) with the U.S. Army for Soldier‑Borne Augmented Reality (IVAS) displays, which was granted in September 2025.

The Phase I contract is a research‑phase agreement that will fund the design, prototyping, and preliminary testing of MicroLED displays intended for a broader range of soldier‑borne applications. By developing these solutions, Kopin positions itself to supply future U.S. Army and NATO soldier‑vision systems and strengthens its sovereign‑sourced defense portfolio.

While the specific monetary value of the Phase I contract is not disclosed, the award represents a new revenue stream and a milestone in Kopin’s transition from a component supplier to an integrated defense solutions provider. The contract also reinforces the company’s unique position as the only manufacturer offering four distinct microdisplay technologies—AMLCD, LCOS, OLED, and MicroLED.

Kopin’s leadership has highlighted the importance of domestic MicroLED development for national security. The award aligns with the Army’s Integrated Visual Augmentation System program and supports the broader goal of strengthening the U.S. supply chain for advanced display technologies.

The Phase I award is expected to accelerate progress toward a production‑ready MicroLED product, potentially opening additional contract opportunities and strengthening Kopin’s long‑term defense relationships.
