On March 13 2026, Kroger announced that its retail pharmacy network will carry Eli Lilly’s obesity medication Zepbound KwikPen, marking the first time the drug will be sold directly to consumers in grocery‑store pharmacies.

Zepbound, a multi‑dose delivery system for tirzepatide, was launched through LillyDirect in late February 2026 after the FDA approved the KwikPen format in January 2026. The product is part of Lilly’s GLP‑1 obesity therapy portfolio, which has seen rapid growth since its debut.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, Zepbound generated $4.2 billion in U.S. revenue, a 122% year‑over‑year increase, underscoring the drug’s strong market traction. Expanding availability through Kroger is a key element of Lilly’s strategy to broaden access and capture additional market share against competitors such as Novo Nordisk’s semaglutide drugs.

Kroger operates 1,190 pharmacies across 16 states. Pharmacists at participating locations will help patients navigate insurance coverage and Lilly’s savings program, which now allows self‑pay patients to access savings cards at retail pharmacies for the first time. The KwikPen is available for self‑pay at $299 per month, a significant reduction from the $1,000‑plus cost without insurance.

This partnership enhances convenience for patients, potentially boosting prescription uptake and reinforcing Lilly’s position as a leading obesity treatment provider. It also aligns with Kroger’s commitment to expand access to high‑demand GLP‑1 therapies and attract customers to its pharmacy network.

"Our customers and communities want affordable, effective weight‑management treatment options with real affordability. Zepbound KwikPen is now accessible to patients at participating Kroger retail pharmacies, and for the first time this product is available to self‑pay patients eligible for Lilly's savings program at a retail pharmacy location," said Colleen Lindholz, Group Vice President and President of Kroger Health.
