Lockheed Martin announced on March 6, 2026 that it will quadruple production of critical munitions, a move that followed a meeting with former President Donald Trump and other defense industry leaders. The expansion is part of a broader effort to increase U.S. military readiness amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, particularly the conflict with Iran.
The quadrupling expands the company’s existing munitions capacity, which had already been increased three months earlier. Lockheed has committed $3.5 billion to new manufacturing facilities, including a munitions acceleration center in Camden, Arkansas, that will use advanced digital production methods to speed output.
The announcement builds on a January 2026 agreement to triple PAC‑3 missile interceptor production, raising annual capacity from about 600 to 2,000 units. The new commitment covers a broader range of critical munitions, though specific product lines were not disclosed.
Lockheed’s management emphasized the urgency of the expansion. “We are committed to working with our industry partners to further strengthen the American military's unparalleled capability with the greatest munitions in the world. We are moving with urgency, and we will deliver,” said a company spokesperson.
The company’s backlog stood at $194 billion at the end of 2025, and it had invested $850 million in research and development and capital expenditures in the first quarter of 2025. The new production commitment is expected to support the backlog and position Lockheed to meet anticipated demand from U.S. defense contracts.
The announcement follows a meeting with former President Trump and other defense industry leaders, underscoring the alignment between the company’s expansion plans and the U.S. government’s focus on rapidly replenishing defense stockpiles amid regional tensions.
