The U.S. Department of Energy approved a 12% increase in the export capacity of Cheniere Energy’s Corpus Christi liquefied natural gas terminal, adding 470 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) to the facility’s output. The approval raises the terminal’s total authorized export capacity to 4.45 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d), making it the second‑largest LNG export project in the United States after Sabine Pass.

The expansion applies to the existing infrastructure of Trains 8 and 9 in the Corpus Christi Stage 3 project, so no new construction or additional regulatory filings are required. By unlocking additional export capacity, Cheniere can ship more LNG to global markets, strengthening its revenue base and reinforcing its competitive position in the rapidly growing U.S. LNG export industry.

On the same day, Cheniere released its Q4 2025 earnings report. The company posted earnings per share of $10.68, a substantial beat of the $3.82 consensus estimate, and announced an expanded share‑repurchase authorization of more than $10 billion through 2030. The earnings beat and buyback expansion were the primary drivers of the positive market reaction, rather than the DOE approval alone.

The DOE approval underscores the United States’ role as a leading LNG exporter and supports global energy security. It also aligns with Cheniere’s strategy to scale liquefaction and export capabilities, positioning the company to capture growing demand for cleaner energy sources worldwide.

The combined regulatory approval and earnings performance signal strong execution and confidence in future growth, reinforcing Cheniere’s status as a key player in the global LNG market.
