Lotus Technology announced on March 13, 2026 that its Lotus Eletre SUV has received UN Regulation No. 171.01 certification, the first China‑built model to meet the global harmonized standard for Level‑2 driver assistance systems. The certification confirms that the Eletre’s Highway Navigation Pilot (HNP) function complies with the technical requirements set out in the regulation, which entered force on September 22, 2024.

The UN R171 regulation is the world’s first harmonized standard for Level‑2 driver‑control assistance systems, covering functional performance, dynamic control, system boundaries and human‑machine interaction. Lotus is only the second global automaker to achieve this certification, underscoring the company’s rapid progress in ADAS development and its ability to meet stringent European safety requirements.

With the certification in place, Lotus will activate the HNP feature in Europe through over‑the‑air updates beginning in June 2026. The rollout will enable customers to benefit from automated highway navigation, while also creating a new revenue stream from advanced ADAS services that can be monetized on a subscription basis.

"Eletre's UN R171.01 certification marks a significant milestone for Lotus' end‑to‑end capabilities in R&D, validation, and adherence to global standards," said CEO Feng Qingfeng. He added, "The Lotus Eletre has become the first Chinese‑made product to obtain the European R171 certification and has taken the lead in opening the Highway Navigation Pilot (HNP) function in overseas markets."

Lotus has faced recent financial challenges, reporting operating and net losses in recent periods. The certification, however, represents a strategic win that strengthens the company’s competitive position in the premium electric‑vehicle market and supports its broader strategy to broaden global compliance and accelerate feature deployment across its vehicle lineup.
