Lantronix announced the launch of its Open‑Q 8550CS micro‑System on Module (µSOM), a compact edge‑AI processor built on Qualcomm’s Dragonwing QCS8550, and a complete Drone Reference Platform that integrates edge compute, sensing, and flight control into a single NDAA‑ and TAA‑compliant solution.

The Open‑Q 8550CS µSOM is powered by Qualcomm’s 4 nm Dragonwing QCS8550, which delivers a Kryo Octa‑core CPU, an Adreno 740 GPU, and a Spectra Image Signal Processor. The module offers 48 INT8 and 12 FP16 TOPs of AI performance, Wi‑Fi 7 connectivity, and robust video capabilities, enabling on‑device AI inference for autonomous and defense drones.

The Drone Reference Platform bundles the µSOM with flight‑control hardware, sensors, and software stacks, allowing OEMs to prototype and ship products in weeks rather than months. Its NDAA/TAA compliance removes a major supply‑chain hurdle for U.S. defense contractors, positioning Lantronix as a turnkey solution for secure, AI‑enabled unmanned systems.

Lantronix’s product launch aligns with its strategic shift from component supplier to platform partner. The company reported Q2 FY2026 net revenue of $29.8 million and raised its FY26 drone revenue guidance to $8 million–$12 million, underscoring the growing importance of the defense drone market, projected to reach $57.8 billion by 2030.

In a competitive landscape that includes other NDAA‑compliant drone platforms, Lantronix differentiates itself through its Qualcomm partnership, which delivers high‑performance AI and video processing, and its focus on rapid time‑to‑market for OEMs. The platform’s compliance and performance give it a distinct advantage in the U.S. defense sector.

CEO Saleel Awsare emphasized that the company’s platform‑led strategy is accelerating the adoption of edge AI across its product lines, noting that “execution across our Edge AI strategy continued to strengthen during Q2, with several customer programs advancing from development and pilot phases into initial production and deployment.”
