Lululemon Athletica Inc. announced that former Nike executive Heidi O’Neill will become its next chief executive officer, effective September 8 2026. O’Neill spent 25 years at Nike, most recently serving as president of consumer, product and brand, and will join the board before taking the helm after Calvin McDonald steps down as CEO on January 31 2026.

The appointment comes as Lululemon grapples with a 4 % decline in Americas net revenue on a constant‑dollar basis in Q4 Fiscal 2025, a 1 % year‑over‑year increase in total revenue, and a 550‑basis‑point drop in gross margin to 54.9 %. Tariff impacts and higher markdowns were cited as the primary drivers of margin compression, while a stubbornly flat U.S. market and slowing demand in its core segment contributed to the sales decline.

Lululemon’s guidance for FY 2026 reflects these headwinds. The company now projects earnings per share of $12.10–$12.30, down from the prior $13.26, and expects revenue growth of 2 %–4 %, a deceleration from the 7 %–8 % growth seen in FY 2025. The guidance signals management’s concern about near‑term demand and the need to control costs while pursuing new product innovation.

Investor reaction was negative, with the company’s shares falling more than 5 % in after‑hours trading on the day of the announcement. Analysts and investors cited skepticism about O’Neill’s ability to reverse the company’s recent performance challenges, the cautious guidance, and the ongoing proxy fight led by founder Chip Wilson and activist investor Elliott Investment Management as key factors driving the market’s reaction.

O’Neill said, “lululemon is an iconic brand with something rare: genuine guest love, a product ethos rooted in innovation, and a global platform still in the early stages of its potential. My job will be to build on that foundation — to accelerate product breakthroughs, deepen the brand’s cultural relevance, and unlock growth in markets around the world.” Board chair Marti Morfitt added, “Heidi is an inspiring leader and proven, consumer‑driven brand strategist, with a rare ability to both imagine a new future for a brand and to create the structure and processes to deliver on that vision.” Former CEO Calvin McDonald noted, “Together, we have transformed the athletic apparel industry and the opportunity ahead for Lululemon is substantial.” Interim co‑CEO André Maestrini said the company is “taking action to incorporate learnings from across our regions to drive forward our strategies.”
