Lumen Technologies announced a partnership with Amazon Web Services on April 15 2026 that brings private, high‑speed connectivity from enterprise sites to AWS through its Lumen Cloud Interconnect platform.
The collaboration leverages Lumen’s extensive fiber network of more than 340,000 route miles and its digital network platform to deliver private, high‑speed connections from branch offices, data centers, or remote sites directly to AWS with a few clicks through the AWS Console and Lumen Connect portal. The solution can shrink deployment timelines from weeks to minutes, scale bandwidth as needed, and deliver the speed and reliability required for AI workloads, data‑intensive analytics, and real‑time applications.
The partnership is part of Lumen’s “Cloud 2.0” strategy to monetize its dark‑fiber network into a high‑margin, recurring‑revenue platform. Lumen CEO Kate Johnson said the strategy “includes its programmable connectivity fabric, a priority to tackle with channel and ecosystem partners in 2026.” The deal expands Lumen’s reach to AWS customers and positions the company as a key enabler of AI and cloud‑native workloads.
Jim Fowler, Chief Technology and Product Officer, said, “Cloud and network infrastructure can no longer operate separately; modern applications demand they work as one. Cloud providers are increasingly integrating connectivity as a cloud service, and Lumen's network enables that seamless experience. Together with AWS, we're simplifying how enterprises connect to the cloud, helping them reduce complexity, move faster and support today's demanding applications.” Scott Yow, SVP of Product, added, “What we're doing with Interconnect – Last Mile is a fundamentally new way to connect into the cloud. One is: it's Layer Three, and because of that, the customer doesn't have to sort of manage the complexity of dealing with redundancy and dealing with multiple PoP scenarios because we basically do that for them.”
Lumen’s Q1 2025 results showed a net loss of $201 million versus a net income of $57 million in Q1 2024, and total revenue declined to $3.182 billion from $3.290 billion year‑over‑year. The partnership is expected to generate new recurring revenue streams and help offset the company’s recent margin compression by providing a high‑margin, scalable service that aligns with the growing demand for AI and data‑intensive workloads.
The partnership is viewed as a significant milestone in Lumen’s transformation from a legacy telecom to a digital networking platform. By integrating its network with AWS, Lumen can capture a larger share of enterprise cloud spending and accelerate the adoption of private cloud connectivity for AI workloads, positioning it ahead of competitors such as AT&T and Megaport.
