Live Nation Faces DOJ Antitrust Allegations Over Ticketing Practices

The U.S. Justice Department presented evidence to a federal judge on January 23 2026 that Live Nation withheld concerts from venues that switched away from Ticketmaster, alleging the company used its market power to penalize competitors.

The lawsuit, part of a 2022 investigation, seeks to dismantle Live Nation’s integrated promotion, ticketing and venue model, potentially forcing divestiture of Ticketmaster or a restructuring of promotion agreements.

Live Nation counters that the DOJ identified only eight alleged cases over 15 years and argues that separating the companies would harm efficiency and raise ticket prices for consumers.

The trial is scheduled for March 2 2026. Live Nation’s stock rose 5.8% on the day of the hearing, indicating investors view the defense as credible and the immediate threat as limited.

Market analysts note that while the lawsuit could reshape the live‑event industry, the company’s dominant market share—over 60% of promotion and 80% of primary ticketing—provides a strong buffer, though a negative outcome could erode its competitive moat.
