Micropolis AI Robotics announced a $9.3 million commercial development and multi‑year distribution agreement with AfricAI Limited, a pan‑African technology venture focused on locally relevant AI solutions. The deal will see Micropolis design, develop, test and validate three new autonomous ground vehicle (UGV) platforms engineered for African operating environments, including off‑road mobility, desert and high‑temperature performance, long‑range communications and AI‑enabled situational awareness.

Under the agreement AfricAI will hold exclusive distribution rights in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Tanzania for a period of three years. The partnership also includes real‑environment pilot testing across selected African sites before full commercialization, positioning Micropolis to tap into security, infrastructure protection, agriculture modernization and border‑management markets across the continent.

The $9.3 million development budget and exclusive distribution rights are expected to accelerate Micropolis’s time‑to‑market in Africa and strengthen its competitive positioning in the autonomous mobile robot sector. The agreement represents a significant geographic and product‑line expansion for Micropolis, adding a new revenue stream and broadening its presence beyond the Middle East and North Africa.

Micropolis has faced financial challenges in recent years, reporting a 30.7% decline in revenue over the past three years and operating at negative margins. The company’s Altman Z‑Score is distressed, indicating a high probability of default. Despite these headwinds, Micropolis’s CEO Fareed Aljawhari said, "This agreement is an important step in our strategy to expand our presence in high‑growth international markets." He added that Africa is a dynamic region with growing demand for intelligent automation solutions and that partnering with AfricAI strengthens Micros’s ability to deliver solutions locally.

The deal aligns with Micropolis’s broader strategy of international expansion, following recent agreements with Aerxio in Egypt and North Africa and a new partnership with QSS Robotics in Saudi Arabia. By securing exclusive distribution rights in key African markets, Micropolis positions itself to capture opportunities in security, agriculture and border control—sectors that are increasingly adopting autonomous technologies to improve efficiency and safety.

The agreement also underscores AfricAI’s role as a sovereign AI developer for Africa, providing a platform for locally tailored solutions across public administration, healthcare, digital identity and enterprise services. Together, the partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of autonomous robotics on the continent, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape for AI‑enabled mobility solutions.
