Microsoft and Ericsson have unveiled a new enterprise‑grade 5G laptop‑management solution that is built directly into Windows 11 Enterprise. The offering combines Microsoft Intune’s cloud‑based device‑management platform with Ericsson’s Enterprise 5G Connect, an AI‑ and cloud‑analytics‑powered system that continuously monitors network quality and automatically adjusts connectivity for optimal performance and security.
The solution gives IT administrators the ability to enforce secure connectivity profiles, switch between carrier networks, and apply enterprise policies remotely—all from within the Windows 11 operating system. Ericsson’s platform uses machine‑learning models to predict network conditions and trigger hand‑offs or bandwidth adjustments, while Intune provides the policy engine that translates those decisions into device‑level actions.
It is currently available in key markets, including the United States with T‑Mobile, Sweden with Telenor, Singapore with Singtel, and Japan with SoftBank Corp. Microsoft plans to roll the technology out to Spain, Germany, and Finland during 2026, and the partnership will be showcased at MWC Barcelona 2026.
By embedding 5G connectivity management into Windows 11, Microsoft extends its cloud‑security stack and deepens customer lock‑in across its productivity, cloud, and device businesses. The launch positions Microsoft to capture a share of the growing enterprise 5G market, potentially generating new revenue streams and reinforcing its competitive advantage in secure, AI‑enabled mobility solutions.
"AI‑powered 5G laptops are redefining how and where work gets done. Together with Microsoft and leading CSP partners, we’re enabling organizations to seamlessly automate the deployment and operations of secure, always‑connected devices regardless of location," said Erik Ekudden, CTO at Ericsson. "Windows 11 serves as the optimal enterprise platform for deploying and managing 5G‑connected PCs at scale," added Ian LeGrow, Corporate Vice President of Core OS at Microsoft.
