Microsoft released three new foundational AI models—MAI‑Transcribe‑1, MAI‑Voice‑1, and MAI‑Image‑2—offering a range of speech, audio, and video generation capabilities. MAI‑Transcribe‑1 can transcribe speech in 25 languages 2.5 times faster than Microsoft’s Azure Fast offering, and is priced at $0.36 per hour of transcription. MAI‑Voice‑1 generates 60‑second audio clips in one second and supports custom voice creation, with a cost of $22 per 1 million characters. MAI‑Image‑2 is a video‑generating model, priced at $5 per 1 million tokens for text input and $33 per 1 million tokens for image output.

These models are available on Microsoft Foundry and, for the transcription and voice models, on the MAI Playground. The offerings support a broad language set, rapid audio generation, and video creation, positioning Microsoft to serve developers and enterprises that require high‑performance, cost‑effective AI services.

The launch is part of Microsoft’s strategy to build its own multimodal AI stack, reduce reliance on external partners, and compete more directly with OpenAI and other rivals. By offering competitively priced models, Microsoft aims to attract developers and enterprises to its Foundry platform, where the models can be integrated into a wide range of applications.

The availability of these models is expected to broaden Microsoft’s revenue streams and deepen customer lock‑in. The models’ speed, language coverage, and cost advantages could accelerate adoption across Microsoft’s cloud, productivity, and developer segments, reinforcing the company’s broader AI ecosystem, including Copilot and Azure AI services.

The rollout underscores Microsoft’s commitment to expanding its own AI capabilities, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape of generative AI and influencing future pricing and partnership dynamics in the industry.
