MACOM Technology Solutions announced the launch of the MAEQ‑39964 and MAEQ‑39966, the industry’s first linear equalizers and cross‑point switch devices optimized for PCIe 7.0. The new components are engineered for 128 GT/s operation and support PCIe 7.0, PCIe 6.0, and CXL protocols, enabling longer reach and higher performance for passive copper cables in data‑center, test‑and‑measurement, and server applications.

The MAEQ‑39964 is a four‑channel linear equalizer that supports data rates from 2.5 NRZ to 128 Gbps PAM‑4 and is intended for active copper cables. The MAEQ‑39966 adds integrated 2×2 switching, offers the same data‑rate range, and is packaged in a 91‑pin BGA. Together, the devices allow customers to extend existing copper infrastructure while maintaining full protocol transparency for PCIe 7.0 systems.

PCIe 7.0 doubles the bandwidth of PCIe 6.0, delivering 128 GT/s per lane, a capability that is critical for AI, machine‑learning, and high‑performance computing workloads. By introducing the first PCIe 7.0‑optimized equalizers, MACOM positions itself to capture demand from data‑center operators upgrading to 800 Gb/s and 1.6 Tb/s optical links, where copper interconnects still play a key role. The equalizers will be demonstrated at OFC 2026 from March 17‑19.

The launch reinforces MACOM’s strategy of delivering high‑performance connectivity solutions across its industrial, defense, and data‑center segments. First‑mover advantage in PCIe 7.0 technology expands the company’s portfolio and supports its broader push into both optical and copper interconnects, aligning with the growing AI and cloud‑computing market.

"As PCIe 7.0 drives higher signaling speeds, maintaining signal integrity over copper cabling and system boards becomes increasingly challenging. Our new equalizers provide our customers a clear, scalable path to PCIe 7.0 while maximizing the reach and value of existing copper infrastructure," said Stephen G. Daly, President and Chief Executive Officer of MACOM.

Investors have responded positively to similar announcements, such as the February 5 earnings release and the March 11 OFC showcase, suggesting that the market views MACOM’s technological advancements favorably.
