NextEra Energy announced a 5.2 GW natural‑gas‑fired power hub in Anderson County, Texas, in partnership with Comstock Resources. The project will be jointly owned by the United States and Japan under the U.S.–Japan Framework Agreement, a key component of the $550 billion Japanese investment pledge to U.S. energy infrastructure.

The hub will provide up to 5 GW of dispatchable power, with a total construction cost of $16 billion. Comstock’s natural‑gas supply is expected to reach almost 1 Bcf per day by 2031, ensuring a secure feedstock for the plant.

The development expands NextEra’s merchant generation footprint in the rapidly growing ERCOT market, positioning the company to meet the rising demand from data centers and advanced manufacturing. The project aligns with NextEra’s strategy to build a diversified portfolio of large‑scale, dispatchable generation assets.

Comstock Resources will supply the natural gas, leveraging its Western Haynesville shale operations. The partnership provides Comstock with a long‑term offtake that supports its growth strategy and enhances its financial outlook.

Market reaction to the announcement has been positive for both companies. Investors view the project as a validation of Comstock’s gas supply strategy and a significant expansion of NextEra’s generation capacity under a strategic U.S.–Japan partnership.
