Northrop Grumman delivered the first production unit of its EGI‑M navigation system on April 17, 2026, marking the transition of the high‑precision positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) platform from prototype to production. The delivery confirms that the system meets all required performance and reliability standards, enabling the company to begin commercializing the product to the Department of Defense and allied partners.

The EGI‑M system incorporates M‑Code, an encrypted GPS signal designed for military use, and offers resilience in GPS‑denied environments. Its open‑systems architecture allows rapid insertion of new capabilities and third‑party applications, enhancing adaptability and future‑proofing the platform for evolving mission requirements.

The delivery reinforces Northrop Grumman’s position as a key provider of advanced navigation systems to the U.S. military and allied partners. The system is intended for integration into a wide range of platforms—including the F‑22, E‑2D, and other fixed‑wing and rotary‑wing aircraft—and has been selected by additional platforms, expanding the company’s reach across the defense aviation portfolio.

Management highlighted the system’s flexibility to defeat current threats and adapt to future mission demands. Ryan Arrington, vice president of navigation and cockpit systems, said the EGI‑M “enhances operational effectiveness and is built with the flexibility to defeat today’s threats and adapt to future mission demands.”

The contract for the EGI‑M system includes a $1.39 billion U.S. Air Force agreement covering production, sustainment, and engineering services, underscoring the strategic importance of the platform and Northrop Grumman’s long‑term commitment to defense PNT capabilities.
