Nokia has secured a contract with Proximus to replace the operator’s entire online charging system and voice core with Nokia’s cloud‑native Converged Charging, Voice Core, Subscriber Data Management and Policy platforms, migrating the full fixed and mobile customer base and more than 1,000 products to the new architecture.
The deployment will run on Proximus’ own cloud built on Red Hat OpenShift, giving the operator automated network functions, new business‑model flexibility and the ability to launch 5G monetization services. Proximus, which commands roughly 40‑50 % of the Belgian market, is using the upgrade to accelerate its digital transformation and fiber‑plus‑5G strategy.
The deal represents a substantial revenue opportunity for Nokia’s Cloud & Network Services segment, which grew 13 % in net sales in Q3 2025 and has shown consistent year‑over‑year growth: 7 % in Q4 2024, 10 % in Q2 2025 and 8 % in Q3 2025 to €645 million. The contract expands Nokia’s footprint in core network and charging solutions and reinforces its shift toward cloud‑native, AI‑driven infrastructure.
Kal De, SVP of Product and Engineering, Cloud and Network Services, said the move “provides Proximus with modular, automated, and intelligent network functions that unlock new revenue streams across IoT, gaming, advertising and beyond.” Laurent Claus, Proximus’ Core & Communication Solutions Lead, highlighted the long‑standing partnership and the tailored migration approach. Justin Hotard, Nokia’s President and CEO, noted that the win “demonstrates Nokia’s leadership in AI‑powered connectivity and its ability to capture market share in the evolving telecom landscape.”
The contract replaces a competitor’s charging system, most likely Ericsson, and positions Proximus to launch new 5G monetization services. While a full deployment timeline has not been disclosed, the migration will be phased to ensure continuity of service.
The win underscores Nokia’s strategic pivot from legacy equipment to cloud‑native, AI‑driven infrastructure, reinforcing its trajectory toward becoming a secular AI infrastructure play.
