NXT Energy Solutions Inc. (TSX:SFD, OTCQB:NSFDF) announced that Gerry Sheehan will become chief executive officer effective April 20, 2026. Sheehan, a professional geologist and geophysicist who has served on the company’s board since 2021, replaces Bruce G. Wilcox, who is retiring from the CEO role but will remain on the board.

The appointment follows a strategic pivot away from large national oil company contracts toward a diversified portfolio of independent oil and gas operators. Sheehan’s field‑operations and technology‑development experience is expected to accelerate the deployment of NXT’s proprietary Stress Field Detection (SFD) platform and expand the company’s presence in Africa, South Asia and Europe.

NXT’s 2025 financial results underscored the momentum behind the shift. Revenue rose 2,437% to $16.4 million, driven by three SFD surveys for new and repeat clients. Operating cash flow improved and the net loss narrowed, while the company strengthened its balance sheet by converting convertible debentures into equity.

Bruce G. Wilcox said, “It has been my privilege to lead NXT through a transformational period over the last three years.” A board member added, “Gerry is a seasoned, industry‑recognized geophysicist and has extensive operational executive experience in the energy sector in our core jurisdictions and prospective geographies. The NXT board and I believe his skill set is ideal for advancing our operations and financial progress.” Sheehan is expected to add “great value to NXT as the company scales up its survey activities in areas of substantial potential in a world demanding new sources of oil and gas.”

The leadership change signals a renewed focus on technical expertise and execution. With full ownership of the SFD technology, which uses quantum‑mechanics‑based stress‑anomaly inference, NXT is positioned to commercialize the platform more aggressively. The company’s third major stage, marked by a strategic investment and a new SFD survey contract in South Asia, further supports the expectation that Sheehan will drive continued growth and strengthen competitive positioning.

Overall, the appointment reflects NXT’s commitment to scaling its survey capabilities, deepening its geographic reach, and leveraging its proprietary technology to capture new opportunities in the evolving oil and gas exploration landscape.
