Northern Trust announced a partnership with ICE ETF Hub to launch a U.S. institutional ETF servicing platform that will provide custody, fund administration, and related services to ETF sponsors and distributors across the United States.

ICE ETF Hub is a technology platform that connects authorized participants, market makers, and distributors, offering automated workflows for ETF creation and redemption. Since its launch, the hub has processed more than $5 trillion in order notional, demonstrating its scale and reliability for large‑volume ETF operations.

The partnership expands Northern Trust’s asset‑servicing footprint into a high‑growth market that complements its existing custody, wealth‑management, and asset‑management businesses. By leveraging ICE ETF Hub’s infrastructure, the firm can offer end‑to‑end solutions for ETF sponsors, distributors, and investors, positioning it to capture a share of the growing U.S. ETF market.

The U.S. ETF market reached $13.4 trillion in assets under management in 2025, with record inflows of $1.49 trillion that year. Active ETFs accounted for 83% of new launches, underscoring the rapid innovation and demand in the space.

Strategically, the move adds a new revenue stream and strengthens Northern Trust’s competitive position against peers such as State Street, BNY Mellon, and JPMorgan Chase. The partnership is expected to enhance fee income and broaden the firm’s client base in the U.S. market.

Phil Nanof, Head of ETF Services, Americas at Northern Trust, said the integration “is a key component of our overall U.S. ETF servicing strategy. This proven platform supports critical ETF workflows and provides established connectivity with key market participants.”

While the announcement does not include specific financial projections, the partnership is positioned to increase fee income and expand the client base, reflecting Northern Trust’s broader strategy to diversify and grow its institutional services portfolio.
