Nu Holdings Ltd. announced a capital allocation of approximately BRL 45 billion (US$8.2 billion) to be deployed in Brazil in 2026, nearly doubling the amount invested over the previous two years. The move signals the company’s intent to deepen its presence in the country that hosts 113 million customers, more than 60 % of Brazil’s adult population.
The investment will be distributed across four strategic pillars: the development of AI‑driven platforms and credit models, the launch of new financial products and services, the expansion of teams and office networks—including a BRL 2.5 billion allocation for infrastructure over five years—and the strengthening of the financial base to support portfolio growth. “This investment is the concrete expression of our commitment to being Brazilians' main financial ally,” said Livia Chanes, CEO of Nubank Brazil.
Nu’s 2025 financial results underpin the confidence behind the plan. Revenue reached BRL 91 billion (US$16.3 billion), up 45 % on a currency‑neutral basis, while net income climbed to BRL 16.2 billion (US$2.9 billion) and return on equity hit 33 %. The credit portfolio expanded to BRL 179.7 billion (US$32.7 billion), a 40 % increase from 2024, and total deposits grew 29 % to BRL 230.3 billion (US$41.9 billion).
The company’s reach extends beyond revenue. Nubank reports that 37 million people across Latin America entered the formal financial system through its platform, with 31.5 million of those in Brazil. Customers have collectively saved approximately US$28.1 billion in fees compared with traditional institutions, underscoring the firm’s role in financial inclusion.
In addition to the capital allocation, Nubank is pursuing a banking license in Brazil for 2026 and has recently joined the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), positioning it to further integrate into the country’s regulated banking ecosystem.
Investors and analysts have reacted positively to the announcement, citing the scale of the investment and the company’s robust 2025 performance as evidence of a strong growth trajectory and a solid foundation for future expansion.
