Oklo Inc. announced that its wholly‑owned subsidiary Atomic Alchemy received a materials license from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, authorizing the handling, processing, and distribution of isotopes at its Idaho Radiochemistry Laboratory. The license permits the company to work with up to 2 curies of radium‑226 and to possess, use, and store sealed sources of cobalt‑60 and americium‑241 for calibration and testing.

The approval marks the first NRC‑issued license for Oklo’s isotope operations and validates the company’s technical and safety credentials. It enables Atomic Alchemy to recover and process waste materials such as disused radium sources into high‑value isotopes for commercial sale, creating a new revenue stream that complements the Aurora fast‑reactor program.

The license is part of a broader regulatory push that also saw the Department of Energy approve the safety design of Oklo’s Aurora reactor. Together, the dual approvals signal that the company is moving from concept to regulated, executable operations, a development that has attracted positive attention from investors.

"Demand for critical isotopes is rising, but U.S. supply remains limited," said Oklo CEO and co‑founder Jacob DeWitte. "This work helps create a more resilient and dependable domestic supply chain of isotopes and supports the transition from early operations to durable, commercial isotope production in the United States.","The NRC license positions Oklo to monetize isotope production while advancing its broader nuclear portfolio. The company plans to leverage the experience gained at the Idaho facility to develop a larger, multi‑reactor isotope foundry that could accommodate up to four Versatile Isotope Production Reactor systems."
