PG&E has added a new renewable natural gas (RNG) interconnection at the Couco Creek Dairy in Turlock, California, bringing the utility’s total RNG points to eight and reinforcing its commitment to a net‑zero energy system by 2040.

The facility began injecting RNG into PG&E’s transmission network on December 31, 2025, after trucked‑in RNG deliveries started on December 30, 2025. The interconnection was publicly announced on February 9, 2025, and the hub is designed to inject roughly 350 MMBtu per day, a volume that translates into an estimated 54,000 metric tons of CO₂e avoided each year.

By adding this hub‑style RNG point, PG&E expands its renewable gas supply while leveraging a “virtual pipeline” that combines onsite biogas production with trucked‑in RNG from other dairies. The strategy allows more farms to participate without direct pipeline access, accelerating the utility’s goal of sourcing 15 % of its residential and commercial demand from RNG by 2030.

The new interconnection supports California’s broader decarbonization agenda by capturing methane that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere. It also provides a revenue stream for the local dairy community, strengthening the agricultural economy and aligning with state incentives for waste‑to‑energy projects.

PG&E’s Vice President of Gas Engineering, Austin Hastings, said the partnership “expands renewable gas options for our customers and moves us closer to our 2040 net‑zero climate goals.” Maas Energy Works founder Daryl Maas added that the hub “unlocks more opportunities for dairies and advances the state’s clean‑fuel priorities.”

While no specific market reaction data is available, the interconnection aligns with California’s regulatory framework that encourages utilities to procure RNG, positioning PG&E favorably within the state’s clean‑energy transition.
