Photronics, Inc. has taken delivery of a state‑of‑the‑art mask writer at its Korea facility, becoming the first company worldwide to install the tool. The new system will enable the production of G8.6‑generation AMOLED photomasks, a capability that supports larger and higher‑resolution displays for next‑generation smartphones, tablets and other consumer electronics.
The acquisition expands Photronics’ high‑end display portfolio and reinforces its leadership in the photomask market. By improving mask‑writing stability, accuracy and resolution, the new writer positions the company to meet the growing demand for advanced AMOLED and IT OLED displays, which are increasingly required for premium devices with higher brightness, resolution and refresh rates.
In Q1 of fiscal 2026, Photronics reported revenue of $225.1 million, up 6.1 percent year‑over‑year, and diluted earnings per share of $0.74, surpassing analyst estimates. The high‑end IC segment generated $165.3 million, while the FPD segment contributed $59.8 million, underscoring the company’s strong performance in both core areas.
"We are excited that we will be the first company to install this mask writer, which enables Photronics to deliver the most advanced AMOLED photomasks, including G8.6 mask sizes. The mask writer will improve the quality and capabilities of developing leading edge masks. This milestone further expands our technological leadership in the display market," said George Macricostas, Chairman and CEO.
"The tool enables the production of the most technologically advanced display photomasks by delivering exceptional accuracy and throughput without compromising writing speed. Delivering these high‑end masks helps our customers create displays with more advanced features such as enhanced resolution, brightness and refresh rates," added HK Park, General Manager FPD.
The announcement has reinforced positive sentiment among analysts, who continue to view Photronics as a strong player in the high‑growth AMOLED and IT OLED segments. The company’s strategic investment in the new mask writer is expected to drive future revenue growth by expanding its product offering and strengthening its competitive advantage in a market that is rapidly demanding larger, higher‑resolution displays.
