Power Integrations announced the launch of its TOPSwitchGaN flyback IC family on March 23, 2026, extending the flyback topology to 440 W—a level that previously required resonant or LLC designs.

The new ICs combine the company’s PowiGaN™ technology with its TOPSwitch™ architecture, delivering 92 % efficiency across 10 % to 100 % load ranges and consuming less than 50 mW in standby and off modes. They feature 800‑volt PowiGaN switches; the eSOP‑12 package provides 135 W without a heat sink, while the eSIP‑7 package reaches the 440‑W range when paired with a heat sink. The devices are pin‑compatible with the TinySwitch‑5 off‑line switcher ICs.

Target applications include data‑center power supplies, industrial drives, power tools, e‑bike chargers, and high‑end appliances, all of which benefit from the simplified design and reduced component count that the flyback topology offers.

By pushing the flyback limit beyond the traditional 200–300 W range, Power Integrations expands its high‑voltage power‑conversion portfolio and positions itself to capture a larger share of the market for compact, high‑efficiency power conversion solutions.

High‑voltage GaN products grew over 50 % in H1 2025 and are expected to represent more than 10 % of total sales. In 2025, revenue from PowiGaN products grew more than 40 % year‑over‑year, underscoring the company’s shift from consumer‑centric markets to higher‑margin industrial and data‑center applications.

Balu Balakrishnan, Chairman and CEO, noted that the company is experiencing steady order trends and normal channel inventories despite trade‑policy uncertainties, while Silvestro Fimiani, Director of Product Marketing, described the TOPSwitchGaN as a “fundamental shift in how engineers can approach power‑supply design,” highlighting the strategic importance of the new IC family.
