Rogers Communications announced a new satellite‑powered Internet‑of‑Things (IoT) asset‑tracking solution that partners with Geotab, a global leader in connected transportation and asset‑tracking technology. The service, built on Rogers Satellite and low‑earth‑orbit (LEO) satellites, lets businesses track trailers, containers and equipment across Canada, even in areas where traditional cellular coverage is unavailable. It extends Rogers Business customers’ existing 5G+ network with coast‑to‑coast IoT coverage, positioning Rogers as the first Canadian wireless carrier to offer satellite‑to‑mobile service for IoT.
The solution leverages LEO satellites to provide seamless connectivity that automatically switches between Rogers’ 5G+ network and satellite coverage. Geotab’s GO Anywhere Plus device, which uses Starlink Direct‑to‑Cell technology, delivers near real‑time location tracking and is powered by wired power. The hardware will be introduced in the spring, and the service is designed to support fleet and asset tracking along remote highways and rail corridors, as well as automated sensors for forestry and mining operations.
Canada’s vast geography presents a significant market opportunity, with only 18% of the country covered by traditional wireless networks. By filling this coverage gap, the partnership taps an underserved remote‑operations market and creates a new revenue stream for Rogers’ enterprise segment. The service is part of Rogers’ broader strategy to capture high‑margin IoT markets in underserved regions, complementing its existing private networks, LPWAN, 4G LTE, and 5G offerings.
Rogers previously launched its Rogers Satellite service on December 9 2025, which offered direct‑to‑device (D2D) services for consumers and included IoT connectivity. The new asset‑tracking solution is a specific application of that satellite technology, demonstrating Rogers’ commitment to expanding satellite‑based connectivity for business customers.
"We're proud to be the first Canadian wireless carrier to offer satellite‑to‑mobile service for IoT. Businesses will now be able to seamlessly track critical assets like trailers, containers and equipment across the country, whether they're connected to our 5G+ network or in areas where traditional cell coverage is not available," said Tom Turner, President of Rogers Business. "Knowing where equipment is and whether it is ready to work is critical on a job site, especially across Canada's vast and often remote geography. Working with Rogers and their coast‑to‑coast IoT satellite‑to‑mobile coverage allows us to deliver an asset tracking solution to Canadian businesses that performs where other cellular networks cannot. This partnership provides our customers with the visibility and confidence they need to manage their most important assets, regardless of where they operate," added Neil Cawse, CEO of Geotab.
