Pratt & Whitney, a business unit of RTX, has secured a 44‑aircraft order from Vietnamese carrier Vietjet Air, comprising 24 Airbus A321neo and 20 A321XLR aircraft. The deal includes a 12‑year maintenance agreement and will begin deliveries in July 2026, expanding Vietjet’s GTF‑powered fleet to 137 aircraft.

The order lifts Vietjet’s total GTF‑powered inventory from 42 A321neo aircraft—first delivered in 2018—to 137, bringing the airline closer to its long‑term goal of 93 GTF‑powered aircraft. The new A321XLRs add extended range capability, supporting Vietjet’s regional expansion strategy.

For RTX, the contract strengthens Pratt & Whitney’s foothold in the single‑aisle market and delivers a predictable, long‑term revenue stream through the maintenance agreement. The deal aligns with RTX’s broader strategy of expanding its commercial aerospace aftermarket and service capabilities, positioning the company to capture a larger share of the growing GTF engine market that competes directly with CFM International’s LEAP engines.

The GTF engine offers up to 20% lower fuel consumption and a 75% smaller noise footprint compared with older engines, and Pratt & Whitney has been working to improve dispatch reliability amid past technical challenges. The order’s inclusion of the newer GTF Advantage variant underscores the airline’s confidence in the engine’s performance and reliability.

Vietjet Managing Director Nguyen Thanh Son said the airline values its partnership with Pratt & Whitney and the engine’s “industry‑leading operating economics and fuel efficiency.” Pratt & Whitney President of Commercial Engines Rick Deurloo noted that Vietjet’s continued confidence “demonstrates the long‑term value of the GTF family and our commitment to enabling their network expansion.”

The announcement was made at the Singapore Airshow 2026, a key venue for aviation deals, highlighting the significance of the contract for both parties and the broader single‑aisle market.
