Sonoco Products Company entered into a 15‑year virtual power purchase agreement with ENGIE North America for 140 megawatts of wind‑generated electricity from the Big Sampson Wind Project in Texas. The contract, effective February 2 2026, will deliver 52 % of the project’s expected output capacity to Sonoco’s U.S. facilities.

Under the VPPA, the wind power will supply approximately 83 % of Sonoco’s U.S. electricity consumption in 2025, a proportion that aligns closely with the company’s goal of cutting Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 25 % by 2030. By locking in renewable energy at a fixed price, Sonoco gains cost predictability while accelerating its transition to a lower‑carbon footprint.

The agreement positions Sonoco as a leader in sustainable manufacturing, enhancing its brand appeal to environmentally conscious customers and investors. The long‑term nature of the VPPA also shields the company from volatile fossil‑fuel prices, potentially improving operating margins over the next decade.

The Big Sampson Wind Project began commercial operation in late 2025, and the VPPA’s 140 MW capacity represents a substantial portion of the project’s total output. This partnership demonstrates Sonoco’s commitment to integrating renewable energy into its supply chain and supports its broader sustainability strategy, which includes responsible packaging, waste reduction, and responsible sourcing initiatives.
