Sysco Corporation announced the launch of its Home Grown by Sysco pilot program, which will go live on February 24, 2026. The pilot will operate in the Great Lakes, Northeast, and South Florida regions of the United States, as well as in Montreal and British Columbia in Canada.
The program will enable sales teams and customers to identify roughly 10,000 locally sourced products on the Sysco Shop website and mobile app, making regional produce, meats, cheeses, and specialty items more accessible. This initiative is part of Sysco’s One Planet One Table sustainability strategy and supports the company’s goal of diversifying revenue streams and boosting margin through higher‑margin specialty products.
The launch reflects growing customer demand for locally sourced and artisan products, with two‑thirds of diners believing restaurants should offer such foods. By partnering with independent restaurants and small suppliers, Sysco aims to strengthen relationships and reinforce its competitive position in the food‑service distribution market. The pilot is a strategic move to build resilient supply chains and expand its locally sourced product portfolio.
Lauren Contreras, director of sustainable food systems, noted that the program responds to customer demand and supports small businesses, while Peter Peluso, regional president, emphasized the importance of local sourcing for community resilience. The initiative is expected to capture a market opportunity and potentially drive higher‑margin specialty product sales, though its financial impact will become clearer as the program expands.
