Truist Financial Corporation announced a data‑access agreement with Plaid Inc. on March 12, 2026 that expands secure open‑banking access for its consumer and small‑business clients. The partnership allows Truist customers to connect their accounts to Plaid’s data network, giving them greater control over their financial information and enabling new digital services such as account aggregation, fraud detection, and a broader range of fintech integrations.

The deal follows Truist’s February 2026 integration with Mastercard and is part of the bank’s “Technology plus Touch equals Trust” (T3) digital strategy. With total assets of $548 billion as of December 31, 2025, Truist is investing heavily in AI, digital platforms, and branch modernization to attract younger, digitally‑savvy clients and deepen relationships with existing customers.

By providing a secure, API‑based connection, the partnership is expected to drive higher customer engagement and potentially increase deposit and loan volumes as clients gain easier access to their financial data. The expanded open‑banking ecosystem also positions Truist to compete more effectively with fintechs and other national banks that already offer robust API ecosystems.

Sherry Graziano, Head of Digital, Client Experience and Marketing at Truist, said, "By working together through cooperative data sharing, we're offering clients improved financial control and insights. This is just one way we're providing a secure, personalized banking experience that digitally empowers clients and small business owners with a broader view of their financial lives. By delivering modern, integrated digital banking through open banking, we're able to deepen relationships and build trust."

Christy Sunquist, head of open finance at Plaid, added, "This partnership combines Truist's commitment to client‑centric innovation with Plaid's leading data network to deliver industry‑defining experiences. Together, the companies are expanding the capabilities of API connectivity and advancing data‑driven innovation, including shared intelligence, to provide clients with secure and convenient access to their accounts."

The partnership underscores Truist’s commitment to digital transformation and positions the bank to capture growth in the rapidly expanding open‑banking market, while reinforcing its competitive stance against fintechs and other national banks that have already built extensive API ecosystems.
