FOX Latin America announced it will acquire Tigo Sports’ local programming, production capabilities, and on‑air talent in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. The transaction expands FOX’s sports portfolio in Central America and gives Tigo customers a broader mix of local and international content, including the Premier League, UEFA Europa League, Bundesliga, Saudi Pro League, Liga MX, and more than 800 live sporting events each year.
The deal also secures full access to the FIFA World Cup 2026 for Tigo customers and positions FOX to launch four new regional channels in May 2026. While the financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed and a specific closing date has not been announced, the agreement is expected to close shortly before the new channel launch.
The acquisition aligns with FOX Latin America’s strategy to deepen its sports presence in the region and with Tigo’s strategy to enhance its entertainment offering while focusing on core telecommunications services. By acquiring Tigo Sports’ local operations, FOX gains immediate access to local content and production capabilities, while Tigo customers benefit from a wider array of international sports leagues and a comprehensive live sports lineup.
Millicom, the parent company of Tigo, reported a net profit of $1.36 billion and revenue of $5.82 billion for fiscal year 2025, with an employee base of roughly 15,000 as of December 31 2025. The company also announced a long‑term commercial agreement with Trans Americas Fiber System on April 10 2026 to expand its international network infrastructure in Central America.
Luciano Marino, VP of B2C at Millicom, said, “Sports are a core part of our value proposition for customers in Central America, and we are committed to continuously enhancing that experience. This step allows us to deliver a broader and more compelling sports offering, including full access to the FIFA World Cup 2026™ through Tigo Sports.” The deal is expected to strengthen FOX’s position in the Central American sports broadcasting market and allow Tigo to focus on its core services while still offering a premium sports experience to its subscribers.
