TELUS announced the launch of its SmartHome Assistant on March 19 2026, a generative AI‑powered interface that consolidates voice, image, sensor, and video inputs across more than 2,000 smart‑home device models.
The assistant delivers a single app, one login, and a unified AI that can understand and respond to user commands, automate routines, and troubleshoot devices in real time. It also adds internet‑management capabilities, allowing users to monitor Wi‑Fi performance and control family usage through natural conversation and automated actions.
By embedding the assistant into its existing SmartHome+ platform, TELUS seeks to deepen customer engagement, increase product intensity, and create new revenue opportunities in the growing smart‑home market. The platform, launched in late 2024, already includes Automation, Video, and SmartEnergy features.
TELUS has been investing heavily in AI, building its own generative AI platform, Fuel iX™, on Google Cloud. The SmartHome Assistant represents a strategic extension of that investment into consumer‑facing services and positions TELUS to offer the technology to service providers worldwide.
"The TELUS SmartHome Assistant delivers that with one app, one login, and one AI assistant that can support thousands of smart devices," said Dwayne Benefield, Chief Product Officer. "It makes life easier and your home more enjoyable."
The launch addresses fragmentation in the smart‑home market, where consumers face dozens of proprietary ecosystems. By providing a unified, AI‑driven interface, TELUS aims to capture a larger share of the $200 billion‑plus global market and to monetize the platform through subscription services and premium support.
While the announcement does not include financial results, the move signals TELUS’s intent to grow its SmartHome+ ecosystem and to leverage AI to increase product intensity and revenue per customer.
