Textron Aviation announced the availability of a Gogo 5G connectivity upgrade for its Cessna Citation business jets, offering operators faster speeds, lower latency, and improved Wi‑Fi performance across a broad range of models.
The upgrade is available for Citation Longitude, X+, X, Sovereign+, Sovereign, Latitude, XLS Gen2, XLS+, XLS, and Excel, and will extend to the CJ4, CJ3+, and CJ3 once additional FAA certification is obtained. Installation can be performed at a Textron Aviation Service Center or by upgrading an existing AVANCE system, and the upgrade is enabled by a newly issued FAA Supplemental Type Certificate.
Gogo’s 5G network delivers download speeds exceeding 80 Mbps and upload speeds above 20 Mbps, with the North American network fully operational since January 2026. The higher bandwidth and reduced latency enable real‑time streaming, cloud‑based applications, and simultaneous internet browsing for passengers and crew.
This launch aligns with Textron’s broader strategy to grow its aftermarket parts and services business. Aftermarket revenue grew 6 % to $2.03 billion in 2025, with Q1 2025 revenue up $27 million year‑over‑year and Q4 2025 revenue up $67 million. The 5G upgrade adds a new revenue stream and complements existing connectivity solutions such as Starlink and Gogo Galileo.
"Reliable, high‑speed connectivity is essential for today’s operators, whether they’re conducting business in flight or supporting passengers who expect a seamless digital experience," said Brian Rohloff, senior vice president of Customer Support at Textron Aviation. "Expanding 5G capability across our fleet reinforces our commitment to investing in technologies that elevate the ownership experience and ensure our aircraft remain leading tools for business and travel."
The upgrade responds to a clear market trend: operators demand high‑speed, reliable in‑flight connectivity to support productivity and passenger comfort. By adding 5G capability, Textron Aviation strengthens its competitive position, creates a new aftermarket revenue stream, and demonstrates its commitment to keeping the Citation fleet technologically current.
