TRU Simulation + Training Inc., a Textron Aviation affiliate, achieved FAA Level D certification for its Full Flight Simulator (FFS) for the Cessna Citation Ascend, the highest approval for full‑flight simulators. The certification, granted on February 16, 2026, confirms that the simulator meets the FAA’s most stringent performance, safety, and realism requirements.

Level D certification means the simulator can be used for all pilot training and certification, including zero‑flight‑time programs. The high‑fidelity platform, with a six‑degree‑of‑freedom motion system and advanced visual displays, provides a realistic training environment that mirrors the Citation Ascend’s advanced avionics and performance, giving operators confidence that pilots can transition smoothly from the simulator to the aircraft.

The certification unlocks new revenue streams for Textron. Licensing, maintenance, and support services for the simulator create a recurring aftermarket business that complements aircraft sales. A robust training ecosystem also enhances customer satisfaction and can increase the resale value of the Citation Ascend fleet, reinforcing Textron’s strategy to grow its aviation segment and deepen customer relationships.

Textron’s Q4 2025 results underscored the importance of this milestone. The Aviation segment reported a profit of $208 million, up $108 million YoY, while overall revenue reached $4.2 billion, a 16% year‑over‑year increase. Guidance for 2026 adjusted EPS of $6.40‑$6.60 fell short of consensus, but the Level D certification adds a positive tailwind to the company’s long‑term growth prospects.

"Pilots deserve training capabilities that reflect the advanced technology and performance that the Citation Ascend brings to the midsize jet category. Achieving FAA qualification ensures pilots can train in the most realistic environment available, building confidence and precision for every mission," said Jerry Messaris, vice president and general manager of TRU Simulation. CEO Lisa Atherton also highlighted Textron’s momentum, noting that the company remains well positioned to invest in products and capabilities that drive growth and long‑term value for shareholders.

The certification is a significant regulatory milestone that strengthens Textron's aviation portfolio. While the market has not yet reacted directly to the announcement, the Level D approval supports the company’s broader outlook and provides a competitive advantage in the midsize jet market.
