United Airlines has announced a new order for 300 General Electric GEnx engines that will power its Boeing 787 Dreamliners, bringing the total number of GEnx‑powered 787s in the carrier’s fleet to more than 200 aircraft.

The deal, which includes additional spare engines, positions United as the world’s largest operator of GEnx engines and underscores a partnership that began in 1968. The order strengthens United’s ability to standardize its long‑haul fleet, reduce maintenance complexity, and secure a more favorable supply chain for future 787 deliveries.

By expanding its GEnx inventory, United gains greater maintenance efficiency and lower spare‑part inventory costs. The GEnx engine’s high dispatch rate of 99.98% and advanced fuel‑efficiency technology also support the airline’s cost‑discipline and sustainability goals, translating into lower operating expenses and reduced emissions on the 787 platform.

The engine order fits into United’s broader “United Next” strategy, which includes deploying the A321XLR, phasing out older 767 and 777 aircraft, and evaluating a potential A350 order. The 787 remains a cornerstone of United’s long‑haul network, and the new engines will help the carrier maintain a competitive edge in reliability and operating economics.

"GE Aerospace has an enduring relationship with United that spans decades. This deal will make United the largest GEnx operator in the world, and we’re honored they continue to choose us to power their success," said Mohamed Ali, President & CEO of GE Aerospace Commercial Engines & Services.
