Uber has added a new “Hotels” tab to its mobile app, allowing U.S. users to search for and book more than 700,000 hotels worldwide directly through the platform. The feature, built in partnership with Expedia Group, lets users filter listings by price, ratings and amenities and pay with their existing Uber wallet, creating a seamless travel‑booking experience within the familiar Uber interface.
The launch is a key element of Uber’s broader super‑app strategy. Uber One members receive 10 % back in Uber One credits and can save at least 20 % on a rolling list of over 10,000 hotels, incentivizing bookings and deepening loyalty. The move also positions Uber to capture a larger share of consumer spending by keeping travelers on a single app for rides, food, and now lodging.
Expedia has agreed to a reciprocal integration: Uber rides will appear in the Expedia app and Expedia’s lodging inventory will be available in the Uber app via Rapid API technology. This cross‑platform synergy is designed to reduce friction for travelers and increase usage of both services.
Future plans include adding Vrbo vacation rentals later in the year, expanding the hotel inventory beyond the U.S., and exploring additional travel‑related services such as attraction and restaurant bookings. These steps aim to broaden Uber’s travel footprint and create new revenue streams.
The launch places Uber in direct competition with established online travel agencies such as Booking Holdings and Airbnb. By leveraging its large, active user base and Uber One benefits, Uber can cross‑sell rides and hotel stays, potentially increasing customer lifetime value and creating a more integrated travel ecosystem.
"Uber is becoming an app for everything—helping people go, get, and now travel all in one place," said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. "Travel should feel effortless, and this partnership gets us one step closer to offering a seamless traveler experience," added Expedia Group CEO Ariane Gorin.
