UL Solutions announced that it has issued its first safety certifications for AI‑enabled products and autonomous robots, marking a milestone in the company’s expansion into emerging technology safety services. The certifications were granted to Qcells’ Energy Management System and Omniconn’s Platform 4.0, both of which use autonomous AI to optimize energy usage in data centers and smart buildings, and to Simbe’s Tally autonomous shelf‑scanning robot, the company’s first public‑facing robot to receive UL 3300 certification.

The AI‑safety certifications were awarded under UL 3115, the standard published on October 31 2025 that outlines the investigation for the safety of AI‑based products. UL’s evaluation confirmed that the Qcells and Omniconn systems meet rigorous criteria for robustness, reliability, transparency, accountability, and human oversight, ensuring that the AI algorithms can operate safely in real‑world environments.

The robot certification was granted under UL 3300, the standard for service, communication, information, education, and entertainment (SCIEE) robots that operate in public spaces. The certification covers the Tally robot’s operational safety, including its charging dock, and demonstrates UL’s capability to certify emerging robotics technologies that must navigate unpredictable human behavior.

Strategically, these certifications open new revenue streams in high‑growth, high‑margin segments and reinforce UL’s position as a trusted safety partner for AI and robotics. The move aligns with UL’s strong Q4 2025 results, which included an EPS beat of $0.53 versus $0.41 expected and record free‑cash‑flow generation. The company’s 2026 outlook calls for mid‑single‑digit constant‑currency organic revenue growth and an improved Adjusted EBITDA margin, underscoring confidence in the expanded business model.

President and CEO Jennifer Scanlon emphasized the importance of independent safety certification for AI systems, stating, “As AI begins to operate in real‑world systems, independent safety certification is essential to public trust.” The announcement follows UL’s strategic realignment, including the divestiture of its employee health and safety software business, to focus on core safety, security, and sustainability services.

By issuing the first AI‑safety and robot certifications, UL Solutions signals its commitment to leading the emerging technology safety market, positioning the company to capture growing demand from data‑center operators, smart‑building developers, and retail automation providers while strengthening its brand as the industry standard for safety certification.
