Unum Group announced a new API integration with Centro Benefits Research, embedding real‑time request‑for‑proposal (RFP) and quote functionality directly into Centro’s broker‑carrier platform. The integration allows brokers to pull Unum quotes instantly, streamlining the benefits enrollment process.
The partnership expands Unum’s digital footprint and positions it as a preferred carrier for broker‑led benefit solutions. It aligns with Unum’s broader digital transformation strategy, which includes AI and advanced analytics to improve customer experience and operational efficiency.
Centro Benefits Research is a leading provider of ancillary benefits consulting and technology solutions for U.S. brokers, and it is expanding its carrier ecosystem. The integration follows similar deals with Principal and The Hartford, further broadening Centro’s network of partner carriers.
"The integration of the Unum RFP and Quote API represents a significant advancement in our digital strategy, further connecting our partner carriers and brokers to unlock operational efficiencies. These technological innovations are pivotal in driving accelerated growth and opening new opportunities for future automation in the connected digital eco‑system," said Treg Balding, President of Centro. "Through our integration with Centro, we're advancing the broker quoting experience with Unum, bringing new levels of speed, accuracy, and transparency that empower brokers to engage clients and prospects more confidently and efficiently," added Bill Dalicandro, SVP Core Market at Unum.
The announcement comes shortly after Unum’s Q4 2025 earnings report, which missed analyst expectations with earnings per share of $1.92 versus $2.11 and revenue of $3.234 billion versus $3.317 billion. The miss led to a negative market reaction. Unum returned $1.3 billion to shareholders in 2025 and is guiding 2026 core operations premium growth of 4‑7% and after‑tax adjusted operating income per share of $8.60‑$8.90.
The API integration is a strategic move to streamline the quoting and enrollment process for ancillary benefits, addressing a key pain point for brokers and reinforcing Unum’s competitive position in the broker channel.
