VEON Ltd. announced that its subsidiary Jazz secured the largest allocation of 190 MHz in Pakistan’s recent spectrum auction, the country’s biggest telecom market. The new spectrum includes 50 MHz at 3500 MHz, 70 MHz at 2600 MHz, 50 MHz at 2300 MHz and 20 MHz at 700 MHz, raising Jazz’s total spectrum from 94.4 MHz to 284.4 MHz and increasing the total available spectrum for all mobile operators from 274 MHz to 754 MHz.
Jazz will pay the Pakistani government the equivalent of approximately USD 239.5 million, with payments scheduled to begin in 2027. The deferred payment structure gives Jazz time to integrate the new bands into its network while maintaining financial flexibility.
The acquisition is a pivotal moment for VEON and Jazz, as the 3500, 2600 and 2300 MHz bands are ideal for 5G deployment and the 700 MHz band provides wide‑area coverage. The win strengthens Jazz’s capacity to deliver advanced mobile broadband, supports the rollout of 5G services in major cities by the end of 2026, and underpins the launch of fintech, entertainment and enterprise solutions that drive higher‑margin revenue streams.
In the auction, Jazz outpaced competitors Ufone and Zong, securing the largest share of spectrum. The total spectrum sold was 480 MHz for $507 million, and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) managed the auction, which included bands crucial for 5G. Jazz’s new spectrum will also improve 4G capacity and is expected to enhance data speeds for existing customers without service disruptions.
Jazz will comply with the PTA’s rollout obligations for the newly acquired spectrum, ensuring timely deployment and coverage expansion across the country.
