Volaris Group, the parent company of Controladora Vuela Compañía de Aviación, S.A.B. de C.V. (VLRS), announced on February 4 2026 that it has acquired Zonal, a UK‑based provider of electronic point‑of‑sale (E‑POS) and hospitality technology solutions.
Zonal, founded in 1979, employs more than 700 people and serves a broad customer base that includes major UK hospitality operators such as Greene King, Mitchells & Butlers and Pizza Express. Its product suite spans E‑POS, ordering, reservations, property management, operations management and marketing tools, positioning the company as a comprehensive technology partner for the hospitality sector.
The acquisition fits Volaris Group’s long‑term “buy‑and‑keep” strategy, which focuses on mission‑critical software businesses that serve specific vertical markets. By adding Zonal, Volaris expands into the hospitality and retail verticals, creating new revenue streams through software licensing and support services while enabling cross‑sell opportunities to its existing portfolio companies.
Jesper Ulsted, Portfolio Leader at Volaris Group, said the deal “strengthens our portfolio with a strong brand, innovative technology and a customer‑centric culture.” Stuart McLean, CEO of Zonal, described Volaris as a “genuine long‑term home” that will help accelerate Zonal’s development and preserve its culture.
Deal terms were not disclosed, but the transaction aligns with Volaris Group’s broader diversification beyond its airline focus. The parent airline, VLRS, reported a 4% decline in 2024 revenue to $3.14 billion, offset by a sharp rise in EBIT to $0.47 billion and a net income of $126 million, underscoring the company’s resilience and the potential value of adding complementary technology businesses.
No market reaction data were available at the time of reporting, but the acquisition signals Volaris Group’s intent to deepen its presence in high‑growth vertical markets and to leverage Zonal’s technology platform to enhance operational efficiency and guest experiences for hospitality operators.
