Vodafone Germany has announced a partnership with Aurora Networks, a business of Vistance Networks, and HUBER+SUHNER to roll out a next‑generation Remote PHY solution across its German network. The collaboration focuses on Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) and Virtual CMTS (vCMTS) technologies, which move network processing closer to the user and run on commercial off‑the‑shelf servers, thereby improving capacity and reducing capital and operating costs.

The DAA and vCMTS technologies have already been deployed in Vodafone Germany’s live network, and the partnership aims to accelerate the company’s 5G rollout and enhance overall network performance. By integrating Aurora’s and HUBER+SUHNER’s expertise, Vodafone expects to increase coverage and capacity while lowering rack space requirements and energy consumption, key drivers of long‑term cost efficiency.

This initiative is part of Vodafone’s broader strategy to strengthen its core European markets after the UK‑Three merger and the divestiture of lower‑return markets such as Italy and Spain. The partnership signals a continued focus on investing in high‑growth markets and modernizing infrastructure to support future multi‑gigabit services.

Michael Rabes, Director of Fixed Access Engineering at Vodafone Germany, said the collaboration is long‑term and will help deliver a reliable, high‑quality cable network that ensures the best user experience today and in the future. The deployment of DAA and vCMTS is expected to provide a scalable foundation for future network upgrades and support the company’s 5G ambitions.

The move is expected to reduce Vodafone Germany’s capital and operating expenditures, although specific savings figures have not yet been disclosed. Nonetheless, the partnership demonstrates the company’s commitment to leveraging virtualized solutions to improve network efficiency and competitiveness in a rapidly evolving broadband market.
