Viasat, Inc. and UAE‑based Space42 will present progress on their joint Equatys direct‑to‑device (D2D) infrastructure at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, scheduled from March 2 to March 5, 2026.

Equatys is a shared, 3GPP‑aligned satellite connectivity platform that aims to extend coverage to billions of underserved users worldwide. The companies have advanced technical development and secured early commercial engagement with mobile network operators, marking the first public showcase of the venture’s technical direction and commercial vision.

"Space‑enabled mobility is a foundational layer for global, seamless connectivity. With Equatys, we are building a platform that empowers nations, operators, and innovators to extend secure, affordable, 3GPP‑aligned satellite connectivity to billions," said Viasat CEO Mark Dankberg.

The partnership aligns with Viasat’s strategy to expand its direct‑to‑device market through a capital‑efficient, shared infrastructure model. Viasat’s acquisition of Inmarsat in May 2023 has broadened its spectrum and satellite assets, positioning it to scale Equatys. Early commercial interest has already materialized through partnerships with e& UAE and PT Telkom Satelit Indonesia, underscoring the venture’s market traction.

Equatys will leverage a coordinated MSS spectrum block of over 100 MHz across more than 160 markets and a satellite constellation that could include up to 2,800 satellites in 60 orbital planes and three altitude layers. The 3GPP alignment ensures seamless integration with terrestrial networks and compatibility with standard smartphones and IoT devices, a key enabler for 5G non‑terrestrial network (NTN) evolution.

Viasat’s recent Q3 FY2026 results—$1.15 billion in revenue, $25 million net income, and $0.79 earnings per share—illustrate the company’s financial strength and operational discipline, providing a solid foundation for the Equatys initiative.
