Vistra Corp. announced on March 5 2026 that its Battery Rewards program will now accept Enphase Energy’s IQ® Batteries, adding a new layer of distributed storage to the company’s virtual power plant (VPP) in Texas. The expansion is offered through Vistra’s retail brand TXU Energy and allows eligible Enphase customers to export stored battery power to the grid during periods of high demand while keeping backup power for outages.

The new program lets participants earn incentives for delivering stored energy to the grid when demand peaks, thereby helping Vistra manage load and reduce strain on existing transmission infrastructure. At the same time, the batteries provide customers with a reliable backup source, enhancing the value proposition of the program for residential users.

Vistra’s strategy to grow its VPP footprint is driven by Texas’s rapid load growth, fueled by data centers, manufacturing, and electrification. By aggregating residential batteries, Vistra can dispatch distributed energy resources in real time, improving grid reliability and creating new revenue streams. The partnership also supports Vistra’s broader goal of hedging generation output and capturing upside during market dislocations.

"As Texas continues to expect rapid load growth, demand‑side solutions are becoming increasingly important. By bringing additional flexible resources like batteries online during critical periods, we can strengthen grid reliability and serve more load using the infrastructure already in place," said Sam Sen, Vistra’s vice president of energy transition solutions. "The pace of energy demand growth in Texas is unlike anything we've seen before, especially as more people move to the state, and industries from manufacturing to technology are all growing. Through our partnership with Vistra, flexible, distributed energy resources like Enphase home battery systems can help supply this demand when and where it's needed," added Marco Krapels, Enphase’s chief marketing officer and head of global energy markets.
