Walmart Inc. opened its third owned‑and‑operated milk‑processing plant in Robinson, Texas, on April 29 2026. The 300,000‑square‑foot facility, built with a $350 million investment, will process and bottle a full range of milk products—including whole, 2 %, 1 %, skim, and chocolate—for Walmart’s Great Value and Sam’s Club Member’s Mark brands.

The new plant will supply more than 650 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations across the South Central United States, strengthening the retailer’s domestic dairy supply chain and reducing dependence on imported milk. The facility is expected to create over 400 jobs in the local community, furthering Walmart’s commitment to U.S. manufacturing and local sourcing.

Each of Walmart’s milk‑processing plants is designed to handle approximately 120 million gallons of milk annually, a capacity that aligns with the company’s goal of scaling domestic production to meet growing demand for high‑quality dairy products.

The expansion is part of Walmart’s broader strategy to enhance supply‑chain resilience, support its e‑commerce and grocery delivery services, and advance its pledge to invest $350 billion in products made, grown, or assembled in the U.S. by 2031. By bringing milk production in‑house, Walmart gains tighter control over freshness, pricing, and availability, giving its private‑label brands a competitive edge in a high‑volume staple category.

"The opening of our new facility in Robinson, Texas, will help us deliver more of what our customers want — fresh, affordable food and quality they can trust. It will bolster our capacity to meet the demand for high‑quality milk, make our supply chain more resilient, while increasing freshness by reducing the time from dairy farm to shelf, bringing more consistency, more transparency and more value to our customers. We're excited about what this means for Walmart customers, regional farmers, and the Robinson community," said John Laney, Executive Vice President, Food, Walmart U.S. "We're excited to be able to provide Texas and its surrounding states with high‑quality milk sourced primarily from Texas dairy farmers. This new facility continues our commitment to building a more resilient and transparent supply chain and ensuring our customers' needs are met for this everyday staple," added Bruce Heckman, Vice President of Manufacturing at Walmart.

The opening included a $25,000 grant to local organizations in Robinson, Texas, and is part of a broader community investment program that saw Walmart and its foundation donate $204 million to Texas nonprofits over the past year.

By internalizing milk processing, Walmart positions itself to capture more margin in a high‑volume category, reduce exposure to external price volatility, and reinforce its competitive advantage in the grocery market. The facility’s capacity and strategic location also support the retailer’s growing e‑commerce and delivery footprint, ensuring that fresh dairy products reach customers more quickly and reliably than ever before.
