Aqua Pennsylvania, the water‑service arm of Essential Utilities, finalized an $18 million purchase of the Greenville Municipal Water Authority on March 4, 2026, adding more than 2,900 customers in Greenville Borough and the surrounding Hempfield and West Salem Townships to its service portfolio.

The acquisition follows the company’s 2025 purchase of the Greenville Sanitary Authority’s wastewater system and marks the seventh water and wastewater acquisition completed by Essential Utilities in the past 24 months. It expands Aqua Pennsylvania’s footprint in Pennsylvania and supports the company’s integrated water‑gas model by adding a new water‑service market while maintaining its existing gas operations in the region.

Aqua Pennsylvania plans to invest $10 million in main pipelines and other infrastructure upgrades over the next decade, a modest amount relative to the company’s $7.8 billion water rate base. The upgrades are intended to improve reliability and service quality for the new customers, reinforcing the company’s commitment to long‑term infrastructure investment.

The transaction is part of Essential Utilities’ broader strategy to consolidate fragmented water systems and is occurring alongside the pending merger with American Water, which has received overwhelming shareholder approval and is expected to close in early 2027. The combined entity will become the largest regulated water and wastewater utility in the United States, positioning both companies for scale and enhanced service delivery.

In its Q4 2025 earnings, Essential Utilities reported revenue of $699.1 million—$110.1 million above the $589 million consensus estimate—and earnings per share of $0.47, beating the $0.36 estimate by $0.11. The strong results were driven by regulatory recoveries and increased natural gas volumes, while disciplined cost management helped maintain margins. Full‑year 2025 EPS of $2.20 exceeded guidance of $2.07–$2.11, and the company reiterated its commitment to a 5–7% compounded annual EPS growth through 2027.
