ZenaTech Initiates Green UAS Certification for ZenaDrone 1000, Paving Way for Federal Procurement

ZenaTech’s subsidiary ZenaDrone has begun the Green UAS certification process for its heavy‑lift, AI‑powered VTOL platform, the ZenaDrone 1000 (ZD1000). The Green UAS program, run by AUVSI in partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense, verifies that a drone’s components are free of foreign adversary parts and meet stringent cybersecurity and supply‑chain standards.

The certification is a key step toward eligibility for federal procurement pathways. While Green UAS certification does not automatically grant Blue UAS clearance, it is widely regarded as a streamlined precursor that can accelerate a platform’s entry into DoD contracting. Successful completion would position the ZD1000 for inclusion on the DoD’s cleared list, enabling field commanders to procure the system more directly.

The move aligns with the company’s broader strategy to transition from a subscription‑based service model to a full‑fledged defense vendor. CEO Shaun Passley said the certification “reinforces our commitment to cybersecurity, supply‑chain integrity, and American‑aligned innovation.” The certification also supports ZenaTech’s goal of building a vertically integrated, NDAA‑compliant supply chain.

The certification effort comes amid a federal push to secure the UAS industrial base. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed in July 2025, earmarks $1.4 billion for the small unmanned aerial system (sUAS) industrial base and an additional $1 billion for one‑way attack UAS rapid fielding. While the ZD1000 is a heavy‑lift platform, the broader funding environment signals strong government interest in expanding UAS capabilities across the spectrum.

By securing Green UAS certification, ZenaTech positions itself to compete for the growing pool of defense contracts that increasingly require NDAA‑compliant, cyber‑secure drones. The certification also signals the company’s readiness to scale production and meet the demand for ISR and cargo missions in a rapidly evolving security landscape.
